Poetry and Roses. Dower House Garden. June 26th
--.
An idyllic, delightful, sun drenched afternoon at the Dower House drinking that sparkling wine with those superb tasting strawberries amid the dreamy music and gorgeous roses - and all those poems read to us which were new to me. So glad we came. You were obviously very busy but hope you had a good financial result.

Greetings,
Margaret , W I poetry group.
Dear Anna,
Thank you so much for yesterday - it was truly wonderful. I'm attaching some photos that you might like.

Hi Anna,
I noticed that after you thanked everyone at the end of yesterday's proceedings, no-one leapt up to say a big thank you to you. It was a tremendous afternoon and despite others obviously playing their parts, it is you who deserves the major accolade.

I keep being impressed with your ability to control the weather, although in truth you perhaps did go over the top as far as temperature was concerned. Do you have shares in the company which manufactures Aftersun? Alternatively, have you thought of becoming a wedding planner? Seriously, it was a super event and thank you for organising it.

It was our first visit to the garden and we were so impressed that I have just applied to become Friends.

My best wishes,
Roger.
Dear Anna,
Many thanks for a delightful day at Morville yesterday. It was an inspired venue - the garden as beautiful as ever - and the poetry was wonderful. The whole event was extremely well organised and, inspired by the splendour of the occasion, I have been filling my working notebook ever since.

Best wishes,
Melanie.
Dear Anna,
What a wonderful, wonderful day – poetry, roses, wine and sunshine. Fantastic. Thank you so much for making it happen.

Love to you both,
Liz.

Arvon International Poetry Competition 2010
--.
Arvon International Poetry Competition - more info'. Win £7,500 in the Arvon International Poetry Competition 2010

The 2010 Arvon International Poetry Competition is open for entries. This prestigious biennial poetry competition was founded by Ted Hughes in 1980. This year the first prize has increased to £7,500 - the highest ever offered in the competition and one of the most generous prizes available for a single poem. The prize fund includes a special prize of £500, which is being offered in association with the Wenlock Poetry Festival. This new poetry festival is based in Shropshire, the county that was home to the First World War poet Wilfred Owen. Wilfred Owen famously wrote ‘My subject is war and the pity of war. The poetry is in the pity.’ The Wenlock Poetry Festival Prize will be awarded to the poem which, in the judges’ opinion, best addresses the theme 'The Pity of War...' The winner of this prize will be invited to read at the 2011 Wenlock Poetry Festival.

Ruth Borthwick, Arvon’s National Director said: "Arvon's competition is a truly international celebration of poetry. We encourage and receive entries from all over the world. That international outlook is reflected in the 2010 judging panel. I'm also delighted by our association with the Wenlock Poetry Festival, whose chosen theme will, I think, inspire some moving entries. We look forward to a vintage competition to mark thirty years since the prize was founded by the great internationalist and Arvon supporter Ted Hughes." The competition will be judged by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, Elaine Feinstein and Sudeep Sen. Poems must be written in English, on any subject, and can be a maximum of 42 lines long. Closing Date: 16 August 2010 Enter online at www.arvonfoundation.org
