Knitting & Poetry

A highlight of the Shropshire Poetry scene, this is a chance to get on with the craft of your choice while enjoying the sublime pleasure of being read to. Gather round the table with a glass of wine, and some yummy cake, and just relax as Tim and Ali read aloud their hand-picked poetry choices.

Half way through the evening you'll be invited to tell us what you're working on and to show us how it's going. There's plenty of skill-sharing round the table, so if you're stuck on something, chances are someone there will be able to help you out.

Listening to poetry against a background of gently clicking needles has to be one of the most laid back ways of taking in poetry so do come and give yourselves a treat. We'll even let you come without your knitting, if you really want to!

£7 to include wine and scrumptious coffee cake from the Copper Kettle!

Christmas Eve Candlelit Reading

This year our special Christmas event will be held on Saturday 23rd December at the usual time of 4pm in the bookshop. A truly magical event, we read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas by CC Moore, followed by Carol Ann Duffy's wonderful retelling of that traditional poem, Another Night Before Christmas. All the children will be given a home-made stocking stuffed full of goodies, and there's a glass or two of Prosecco for the adults.

The cost is £10 per child and all the money raised goes to the Shropshire run charity, Friends of Conakry Refugee School, the bookshop's chosen charity. Parents and grand-parents are very welcome.

Pre-booking and payment is essential as this event always sells out, so please avoid disappointment and book soon - only 6 spaces left at the time of writing!

This is a very special event and many parents say it marks the start to their Christmas. We, the bookshop staff, love it.

(Please note you should arrive at 3.45pm so that we can get everyone in and settled for a 4pm start. Thank you!)
