Below is the full timetable of events and guests for our Books Are My Bag bookshop party on Saturday 10 October. Wenlock Books will be open for longer than usual so join us between 9 am and 5:30 pm for plenty of bookish fun!
At each of our mini-parties, drinks (coffee, tea, squash for children, fizz for those who want to fully embrace the party spirit!) and cakes will be served for free to all customers, and everyone is welcome to drop in and out of these events. Pop along to as many as you like - there's no need to book! All of our events will be free.
Poetry Breakfast: Joined by poet Liz Lefroy we will enjoy coffee and croissants, with shared poetry from our best-loved poets, and lots of good conversation. Friendly and welcoming, this is the best way to start your weekend.
Gruffalo Storytime for under 5s: Join us as we take a stroll through a deep, dark wood and read the Gruffalo as well as other much loved children’s stories. Tea and coffee for the grown-ups, squash for the children and cake for everyone! Songs, stories and plenty of fun!
Children's Bookish Arts and Crafts: Led by WBS student Imogen Denholm, there will be feathers and sequins galore! Design your own book covers, decorate a Books Are My Bag canvas bag, create hats and headbands and join in the fun. All equipment, squash and lunchtime snacks will be provided – just bring your imagination! For children of all ages.
Book launch for 'Wenlock Abbey 1857 - 1919': To launch her highly acclaimed book, Dr Cynthia Gamble will be appearing in conversation with William Motley (who grew up at Wenlock Abbey). Described as ‘a remarkable slice of English social and cultural history’, this book launch is not to be missed! Drinks and snacks will be provided.
Go Set A Watchman discussion group: In the style of our much loved Random Reading Groups we will be discussing the long-awaited sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird. All welcome, cake and bubbly included!
Whilst these parties take place upstairs, the downstairs of Wenlock Books will be home to authors, poets and publishers who will all be chatting to customers and signing copies of their books. We will have plenty of copies of each guest's newest releases but we can order copies of any of their other books for you to have signed. Just let us know if there's something you're after! If you aren't able to make it to our Books Are My Bag day but would like to have something signed let us know and we can organise it. There is no charge to meet our guests!
